The AeroKontiki software customisation and App development was done by Kelly Schrock, who is a talented software developer and very passionate about UAV systems. Kelly was instrumental in the software development of the AeroKontiki ensuring the system "SMARTS" and behaviour was suited for operating over sea and long line hauling. An example of his creativity is the introduction of the "Low Altitude Shelf" feature to prevent the AeroKontiki being accidently landed into the water. The Aerokontiki was the world's first UAV known to use the "Low Altitude Shelf" thanks to Kelly.
Kelly got into drones once he realized the wide variety of applications they could eventually be expected to do. Since then, he has been exploring what's possible in the flight controller and ground-station areas, contributing to the various open-source projects related to drones, and of course flying a lot. His latest project is to allow remote tracking and following of multiple targets, freeing up the pilot to concentrate on the video and cinematic aspects.
